The Portuguese Red Cross wants to offer 500 thousand rapid covid-19 diagnostic tests to schools and nursing homes. These tests detect the infection in just 15 minutes. Experts approve the measure and say it is essential in places "where many people gather."

"It is probably one of the best news we have received since the beginning of the pandemic": this is how Dr. Filipe Froes, a pulmonologist and coordinator of the covid-19 crisis office of the Medical Association, reacts to the intention of the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) to distribute 500 thousand rapid covid-19 diagnostic tests for free to be used in schools and nursing homes - which have the ability to detect the infection in just 15 minutes. Dr. Froes assured i, the newspaper, that this is "an important step in maintaining life as normal as possible," but warns of the low number of tests that may be distributed - although they have not yet been given the green light by the government, but rather by the National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (Infarmed).
