Biojam prepared to ensure Covid-19 testing during sixth wave

Following the creation of a logistics hub for the supply of COVID-19 tests for the Iberian and PALOP markets, Biojam has just reinforced its stock of rapid PCL COVID19 Ag Gold antigen tests for a rapid response to the domestic market. More than 200,000 tests have been prepared for supply within a maximum of 6 hours, maintaining the possibility of supplying one million tests per week.

Given the current figures announced last week, which put Portugal in second place among countries with the most new cases per 100,000 inhabitants and taking what has been happening in other countries as a reference, Carlos Monteiro, CEO of Biojam Holding Group, believes that "this sixth wave will unfold more quickly and intensely". Despite the existence of vaccines that have mitigated the negative impact of the pandemic in terms of the number of deaths, Carlos Monteiro shares the view of the experts who are advising the government and for whom the reimbursement of rapid antigen tests (TRAg) in pharmacies should be extended for the foreseeable future.

Faced with this scenario, Biojam Holding Group has reserved more than 200,000 tests for the national market, which can be delivered as soon as the automatic prescription of tests is implemented via the SNS24 line announced by the government. Carlos Monteiro also said: "We know that most test suppliers don't have the capacity to create stocks for a rapid response to the national market and that logistical issues are increasingly an obstacle to the speedy implementation of measures. We are therefore limiting the number of tests sent to other countries in order to guarantee a response to Portugal."

Since the beginning of the year, Biojam Holding Group has had an agreement with its South Korean partner to ensure that all Portuguese organisations can respond quickly to the growing demand for tests for professional use. This partnership allows Biojam, the exclusive representative of the COVID19 Ag Gold rapid PCL antigen tests, to place one million tests on the national market every week, which corresponds to 50 per cent of the manufacturer's weekly production capacity. This makes Portugal one of the reference countries for the distribution of PCL tests.
